Fireplace Mantle

It's done! Well, I think it's done!  Here is my faux fireplace mantle in our living room.  I took down the plates and large frame to make room for my beloved painting.

Everything is really very simple.  I took some garland and added some lights and a few berry picks.  The ribbon is the old ribbon I used on my Christmas tree for 6 years.  You know how you get tired of something and you just want a change?  That is me in a nutshell!  Anyway, I decided the tree needed new ribbon this year, and I had tons of the old leftover, so I have strategically placed it all over the house!

When I say I adore this painting, that is really an understatement!  My talented father painted this for me 4 years ago, and I will always cherish it!  I saw a painting like this in Paula Deen's home in her magazine one year.  I thought to myself,  my Daddy can paint that in a jiffy for me!  I showed him the picture and he had it done in about two hours!  Man, I wish I got his talent!

I found these stockings at a flea market when the kiddos were toddlers.  I had been looking for stockings made out of old quilts and when I stumbled upon these I fell in love with the colors instantly!  Blue for Ethan and pink for Kailey.  I had their names monogrammed about 3 years ago.

I am going to point out the sock in the bottom right hand corner.  I will be showing this to my children this afternoon when they get home from school.  Every time I turn around, there are socks everywhere!!!!!!  I don't mean 2 or even 4, but there will be at least 7 or 8 socks randomly scattered in my living room!  I laid down a new law 2 nights ago, and if I find 1 more sock in my living room, the child who's sock it belonged to, would be grounded for the rest of the day.  No t.v, no games, no nothing!!!!  I know your thinking "Oh, but it's Christmas!!!"  Well, this Momma has had it!  A.K.A The Groundinator!!  I know they don't wear that many socks in 1 day, so they must stash them and hide them all over the place.  UUUGGGHHH!!!
O.k, I feel better.  Thank you for letting me vent!  Hope you like the mantle, and please leave sweet and gushy comments!  I love to hear from my blog friends!!

  3. Just beautiful even with it's simplicity. I love that plaid ribbon. I have a red and white plaid ribbon that I save and use from year to year, too. Love the old looking stockings. The most spectacular piece is that wonderful painting. Your dad did a marvelous job! He should do some in different sizes and sell them. Thanks so much for joining my party again!

  7. Love your mantle and fire screen~ It looks so charming and your dad's painting is just so sweet! I have the same sock issue at my house~ Sometimes I think it's like 'pigpen' from Charlie Brown... the kids walk in a room and all their 'stuff' (socks, backpacks, shoes, etc) starts falling off all over the place! :)

  11. B E A U T I F U L... and I love how you vented about the sock. I used to make my kids fold their socks together when they took them off because I was tired of mis-matchs. Thanks for sharing.

  15. Hi! Ok, first of all...I seriously cracked up about the socks because my kids do the same thing! They are everywhere! What is that all about? :-) Secondly, thank you so much for linking up your gorgeous Christmas "faux" fireplace! It is so beautiful and I just love how you have given it such warmth and character. I also love that you call your dad "daddy" because I call mine that too! :-) I can see where you get your talent and creativity and that is a lovely painting to treaure for generations to come!

  16. Hi Erin, I love your mantel diplay and the painting your dad did for you is so lovely. Your dad is very talented and it's so nice that you have something that he painted just for you. So funny to see the sock laying on your floor, I remember when my three children were young I had tried to keep track of whose socks were whose by sewing a colored thread in each sock, easier for sorting right? How in the world did I even have time to put colored thread in all their socks is beyond me and too funny and so silly. I had a good laugh tonight with that memory after seeing "your" sock. Have a great weekend and I hope the kids aren't grounded for too long, lol!

  20. I saw your photos on HGTV's website and fell in love with your house. You have done a wonderful job mixing old and new pieces. I love your colors. You sound like a fun person. The sock story is sooo familiar. My kids are older now but I still find their stuff all over the house. I fuss some but now that they're all about grown it doesn't bother me as much. I only have 3 years before my baby goes off to college. You appear to be a real designer to me. You've done an excellent job. Cindy, from Tennessee. I don't have an account or website.
