Before and After: Master Bathroom

I've showed you a few pics of the finished bathroom.  But, I've never showed the before.  Get ready for a lot of pictures!  I've also got new pics of the new bathroom tweaked!!

It always seemed so dark to me.  And, do you see that dark spot right at the bottom of the tub?  Yep, that's mildew!!  Yuck!!!  That's what we get for putting carpet in the bathroom I guess.  Lesson learned.

Way too much clutter going on.  I've really tried hard to declutter the house lately.  It makes me feel jumpy.  Believe me, I need to feel calm!  That's my husband saying "Hurry up!  We need to rip that carpet up!"

I've always loved my shower curtain.  My sweet friend Amy got it for me for a house warming gift.  It hid all the shower clutter and if the glass door needed a good scrubbing you couldn't see it!  But, it was time to go.

My Target rug was pretty.  It constantly slipped on that carpet.  It drove me crazy!!

Here is the new and improved bathroom! Here's the lowdown again.

Laid tile floor
Painted walls
Painted trim

I've tweaked it since I last showed it to you.

So much brighter and cleaner looking!  You can read about the flooring here.. That is tile that looks just like wood!!!  Awesome!!!!

I feel as though I can breathe again in this space.  Very calming.

Here are my new curtains I got from Pottery Barn.  The are a little long and I still need to hem them up.  I will get to that sooner or later.  Right now, the gather and push method works just fine!

I used a cheap shower curtain rod to hang them.  It worked perfectly!

Here is one of the tweaks.  I took the mirror from the dining room and thought it would work perfect in this space.  I know, I know.  I said in one post that I would never hang a mirror over a tub, because I didn't want to watch myself naked getting into a bath!  However, this mirror only is from the waist up, so when I get in, my eyes stay focused on the faucet!

This picture I found at an antique mall for $8 was originally in my bedroom.  But, I decluttered those walls and thought it would look great in this spot.

I'm going to point it out, if you did not notice, oops, I just brought your eye there!  Sorry for the box of tampons in the pic!  A mirror gets other things in the shot, other than the mirror!

Here is the same black shelf but painted white!  I thought I might distress it and put a glaze over like I did on the mirror.  But, I really like the contrast between the two.  I love my old bottles, candles from Hobby Lobby, plates from Anthropologie and the green candle holder was gift from my sister.  I added the crystal drops from Canton First Trade Days.

White plates ~ Anthropologie
White brown transfer ware ~ flea market
Bamboo shades ~ Lowes (same as my kitchen shades)

I love my wooden cross from Canton Trade Days!  It holds so many necklaces!  I have way too many!

I love necklaces!  Can you tell?

I had overflow and had to add something else for them all.  I found this great green hook from TJ Maxx for $3!  A steal!!

I keep my cleansers out in plain sight, so if I want to go to bed without washing my face, they are staring at me saying,"You must wash, you must wash"  and then I cave and do it!!  You can read my post here about my favorites.  Take care of that face ladies!  It's the only one you'll ever get.

Here's where we keep our perfume and cologne.  Again, if it's out where I can see it, I don't have to dig for it!

I love my new soap pump from the bathroom section at Target.  I got one for my kitchen as well.

This is where I keep my robe behind my door.  The robe is from Ann Taylor Loft a few years ago and I love it!

Hooks ~ Southern Living at Home

Found this great picture at an antique mall that was going out of business.  I got it for super cheap.  I think I paid $20 for it!  Score!

Love the detail on the frame

I got this beautiful rug from Pottery Barn.  I think they don't sell this one anymore.  I tried looking for it but couldn't find it!  You might want to check eBay.

There you have it!  It is complete and I love every calming corner of it!

Framing Out a Mirror and Quarter Round

I thought I would share with you some of the projects we did in the master bathroom redo.

******************************

This project was completely my husband's idea.  He thought the mirror would look great framed out in wood.  Secretly, I have always wanted to do that, but I knew he would have to move the light fixture over the vanity a little higher, so I didn't want to bother him with that little request since he was already working so hard. However, he offered and I accepted on this one!

It really was quite easy.  There are so many tutorials floating around out there, but none answered our question of that pesky outlet you see at the bottom of the mirror.

The trim is literally sitting right on top of the outlet. I mean we made it by the hair of our chinny chin chin.  Pesky issue one ~ check
He used a miter saw to cut the edges and then I painted a glossy white on.  Putting it up, was actually quite comical.  We used liquid nails to secure the entire thing.  That's it!  So, I had to hold one side while he held the other and then we started to tape our sides at the same time.  The part that was comical was, my side would slide down because I wasn't holding it right.  We would start the process over again and again!  But, we finally got it up and secured and let it cure over night.

I'm very pleased with how it turned out!

The next project was laying quarter round down around the bath tub, shower and at the base of the cabinets.  The grout didn't lay to pretty there, so we needed something  to make it look nice and clean.

Enter, pre-painted quarter round.  We got it at our local Lowe's and the best thing is, it's not wood.  So it can get wet and not rot.  We applied liquid nails and laid it snugly against the tub and tile and anywhere else we needed it.

We secured it with painters tape so it wouldn't move.

While my man, was at work, I got busy painting the cabinets.  I'm kinda a semi pro at this by now, so it went really smoothly.  I used the same paint from the Kitchen cabinets so I was trying to save us some money again.  I didn't have very many doors to do this time, so I thought I would try my hand at placing paintable bead board in the center of the cabinet door.

David made me a template and then I just cut away.  I was really nervous about how it would turn out and how easy was it going to go on, and guess what?  It was so much easier than I ever thought.

*I used an exacto knife to make my cut and then finished the cut with scissors.
*You place the cut piece in a sink full of water for about 3 min. and let it soak really good
*Place the wet piece on the cabinet door and smooth out
*I used a flat edge scraper to get all the bubbles out
*And Voila!  You let it dry over night and there you have it!

***Don't look at those dirty dishes in the sink!  I had a project to do!***

Sorry I don't have a clearer picture.  But, I love them.  I painted right over them with my paint and they look great!  I still can't decide if I want to rub a glaze over them or not.  I'll have to live with them for a while.

Ah, the joys of painting!  I think I take up every room in the house when I paint.

Here's a look at the quarter round all done!

Looks nice doesn't it?

I'm still waiting on my curtains to be shipped for the cutout under the cabinets.  I just painted a shelf and now I need to glaze it and put it up and I'm done!!  I really am enjoying our new bathroom.  It just feels good to have it done and know that we did it!  Hope your projects are going well and have a good sleep!

Blessings,
